It’s Hate Week

If parity doesn’t describe this football season. I’m not sure what does.  This season has been crazy to say the least.  So, with all the craziness that’s been going on this season, especially these past 2 weeks; how have our picks been holding up?

Here are last week’s results

Daniel 10-2 (80-21)
Katie 10-2 (77-24)
Isaiah 9-3 (55-32)
Garret 7-5 (78-23)
Molly 0-0 ( 38-21)

This week, both Isaiah and Chris are back as guest pickers.

#5 TCU v West Virginia  **thursday night game
#6 Michigan St – bye
#7 Alabama – bye
#8 Stanford @ Washington St
#9 Notre Dame @ Temple
#10 Iowa v Maryland
#11 Florida v Georgia  ** in J’ville – Florida is home team this year, if I remembered correctly  Dear 8 lb, 6 oz newborn infant Jesus, don’t even know a word yet, please please please let Georgia win this game and be one win closer to being bowl eligible.  If we happen to have a repeat of the 2007 game, I’m fine with that. Amen.

Mercer @ The Citadel
Texas @ Iowa St  I believe in Charlie Strong and I feel like our football team is finally gelling and coming together. I’m still a little nervous about our special teams though and the fact that this game is in Ames.
#14 Oklahoma v Kansas Because OU can still play spoiler in the Big 12 and the way they’ve been playing after the loss in the Red River Shootout. Yeah.
#19 Ole Miss v Auburn

Garret’s Picks
#1  Ohio St – bye
#2 Baylor – bye
#3 Clemson @ NC State Clemson avoids another Clemson moment to beat NC State, one of the original ACC upset kings.
#4 LSU – bye
#5 TCU v West Virginia  **Thursday night game West Virginia pushes the envelope tonight, but TCU wins late AGAIN.
#6 Michigan St – bye
#7 Alabama – bye
#8 Stanford @ Washington St The Cardinal goes DOWN. Washington State wins and takes control of the Pac-12 North.
#9 Notre Dame @ Temple Temple stays undefeated! The Fighting Irish’s national championship hopes finally get put to bed, and the Owls remain a fly in the ointment.
#10 Iowa v Maryland Iowa continues their perfect season, and I really am not surprised. The Terrapins should just go back to the ACC.
#11 Florida v Georgia  ** in J’ville – Florida is home team this year, if I remembered correctly OH I WONDER WHO WINS THIS? IT’S GOING TO BE A LONG, LONG, LONG NIGHT IN JACKSONVILLE FOR THE BULLDOGS. FLORIDA BASICALLY CLINCHES THE SEC EAST WITH THIS WIN!

Mercer @ The Citadel Uh, I hate to pick against the Bears, but The Citadel is really, really good this year. The Bulldogs win this one!
Texas @ Iowa St  The Charlie Strong Revenge Tour continues with the Longhorns beat up on the Cyclones in Iowa
#14 Oklahoma v Kansas There’s no way the Jayhawks win this. Why are we picking this game? Oklahoma wins by a LOT.
#19 Ole Miss v Auburn Again, why are we picking this? It’s Auburn and they’re terrible in 2015. Ole Miss and Nkemdiche wins this.

Daniel’s Picks

Mercer @ The Citadel
Texas @ Iowa St

Isaiah’s Picks
#1  Ohio St – bye More like THE Bye Week, am I right? Hands-down the dorkiest thing in college football is Ohio State’s petulant addition of “THE” to distinguish themselves from such fine houses of academic thought as Cuyahoga and Denison. Go home, Buckeyes. No one who wasn’t born within a stone’s throw of a Skyline Chili thinks your nickname is cool.
#2 Baylor – bye More like ‘Byelor,’ am I right? These dudes are probably just going to huddle up in a dorm room and binge-play Madden 25 in order to satiate their junkie need to put up a thousand points up every week.
#3 Clemson @ NC State  38-32 THE WORLD FAMOUS TEXTILE BOWL. It would be wonderful to see NC State upset Clemson and send them spiraling down the rankings. I think this game will be a three hour reminder that sometimes wonderful things can still happen in this world.
#4 LSU – bye More like ‘bye-you,’ am I right? Nah, I’m just kidding, fellas. Geaux take a “me day.” Good on you for beating Florida.
#5 TCU v West Virginia  **Thursday night game  49-27 The team that seems bound and determined to make their scoreboard read 99 every week versus the team that doesn’t have a single Big 12 win this season? What a coin toss.
#6 Michigan St – bye More like… byechigan? I don’t know. You guys did what you were supposed to. You beat Harbaugh and his half-dozen angry slung headset temper tantrums. Good job, fellas. You deserve a good rest.
#7 Alabama – bye I’d say “More like Alabyema” but that’s how most Crimson Tide fans pronounce it already, am I right? Cue the Paul Finebaum Show: “PAWL, Roberta from Demopolis here. I know it’s s’posed to be a lay-around week but I really do think Coach Saban needs to get them boys doing 2-a-days and then keep an extra close eye on ’em so they don’t get too soft before we play LSU. ROLLLL DAAAMN TIIIIDE.”
#8 Stanford @ Washington St 20-9 Look, Washington State. ESPN Game Day decided to ask Temple to the big Halloween dance instead of you and I know that sucks. Chin up. We still need you to beat Stanford. Ignore that prediction. I have faith you can do it.
#9 Notre Dame @ Temple  30-24  Temple. You stole Game Day away from Washington State. Now it’s up to you to knock Rudy down a peg or two.
#10 Iowa v Maryland 24-17 They should name this game the There Will Be Blood bowl. Just kidding. Iowa is good and will probably win, but they aren’t the threat that Northwestern game made them out to be. Bonus Fun Fact: Maryland has the coolest state flag in the nation.
#11 Florida v Georgia  ** in J’ville – Florida is home team this year, if I remembered correctly 24-21 Hate Hate Hate Hate Hate Hate (inhale) Hate Hate Hate Hate Hate. I will probably have to go in to Witness Protection after saying this but here goes: I hope Georgia wins and I know if they lose the entire state will be bummed out for a week. However, if Georgia loses and Mark Richt finally gets his walking papers as a result it will have been for the Greater Good.

Mercer @ The Citadel  35-24 “Hey, look at that. Mercer’s playing the Bulldogs this week.” “Oh really? Mississippi State or UGA?” “No. The Citadel.” “Oh. Hm. This year, I think I’d rather play either Mississippi State or UGA.”
Texas @ Iowa St 42-13 I accidentally wrote “Texas – bye” at first. After thinking about it for a minute I think that was more or less accurate.
#14 Oklahoma v Kansas 59-14 This game will probably be even more lopsided than this. I am giving Kansas the benefit of the doubt in being able to pick up those two touchdowns. Don’t let me down, Kansas. Fun fact: Your state is the one I always have trouble remembering when I try to name all fifty.
#19 Ole Miss v Auburn 31-24 How great would it be if Georgia somehow still made it to the SEC Championship game and Auburn didn’t even get a bowl game? Ole Miss, here’s hoping you’ll think that would be hilarious and lend us a helping hand.

Chris’ Picks
#1  Ohio St – bye  I’m pulling for Bye this week. I know it’s a long shot, and I’m sure Bye will ultimately lose, especially since is the quality team Ohio State plays most of the year to keep themselves in the top 10. Come on, Ohio State, run the SEC gauntlet for five years and see what happens.
#2 Baylor – bye Baylor over Bye. I’m disappointed ESPN decided to use the “B-Y-E” acronym for every school that could fit it, but they’ve done odder things.
#3 Clemson @ NC State I’m going to pull against Clemson every day, every week, every year…but this is worse. Our sports news is about Dabo dancing; this must stop.  Go Pack. Woof.
#4 LSU – bye After the sportsmanship the Tigers of LSU showed towards South Carolina after the recent deadly floods, I now  have an SEC West team to pull for. The South Carolina and University flags flown at the stadium, our fight song and alma mater played by the band, a flight out there, ticket proceeds going back to Carolina, and even letting us score a few points by sending in their baseball team during the first quarter…
#5 TCU v West Virginia  **Thursday night game My serious pick: TCU. They’ve been phenomenal to watch this year. Well, the highlights have been great, which is all that matters in games that don’t involve the drama and regular upset potential of the SEC. (Or a Michigan-Michigan St game.)
#6 Michigan St – bye Bye will win this one, but it will be when they block a punt and run it back during the final seconds. State fans will cry out in anguish, knowing that for action there is an equal and opposite reaction, and that their win over Michigan was so spectacular that the football gods decided they must be punished immediately. Usually it takes a few years for this to happen, as can be evidenced by South Carolina’s down year after things like toppling number one Alabama a few years back or the Clowney Hit (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MIu22jokKKk) during the Outback Bowl versus Michigan. Wait? Two Michigan games led to retribution by the football gods? Are they Michigan fans? Roger Riddle would hope so…
#7 Alabama – bye Pulling for Bye. (Sorry, Mechel.) Geaux LSU. If you have to face UGA (see my below prediction to help keep that from happening), I will be pulling for the West.
#8 Stanford @ Washington St Really don’t care here because it will probably just go to Stanford.
#9 Notre Dame @ Temple Go Notre Dame. My future brother-in-law will be happy with this pick because his other college teams don’t fare too well, and he puts up with my sister’s teams doing well most years. (His Fighting Illini lost to North Carolina…by a lot.)
#10 Iowa v Maryland Maryland, for the simple fact that Iowa is undefeated. Upend the rankings in a bucket, shake it around, and dump them out. Wrap the playoff series in BCS computer analysis, and then flip a coin to see if first is last or last is first.
#11 Florida v Georgia  ** in J’ville – Florida is home team this year, if I remembered correctly This is painful…oh, so painful. Because it involves orange. Go Not Georgia.  Why? Because the UGA season is playing out like every other season: “We’re Top 10! This is our year.” A couple of losses, very close wins, and not stellar performance. “FIRE BOBO…oh, wait? He’s gone. MAYBE RICHT SHOULD CONSIDER, MAYBE, THAT HE’S DONE!” The rest of the SEC eats itself alive…weirdly this year helped out by Kentucky. “HOLY CRAP IF WE WIN OUT IN THE SEC WE TAKE THE EAST! TOLD YOU WE WERE GOOD!” I’m tired of it.

Mercer @ The Citadel I’m not calling this game. The Citadel is my hometown team since College of Charleston doesn’t field a team, but Mercer is my current hometown team. So here’s hoping for a good game. Go Team!
Texas @ Iowa St Go Texas. I’m a supporter of Charlie Strong, though I’m not pulling for him to fill Spurrier’s shoes.
#14 Oklahoma v Kansas I want to pull for Kansas because they’re the underdog. Or the underhawk. Or whatever. But I can’t. That would be throwing away this pick worse than picking Bye over Alabama. (Bye still has a chance to beat Ohio State.)
#19 Ole Miss v Auburn Poor Auburn. Poor, poor Auburn. I feel bad for your season; I know how it is to look forward to a season only to see it washed away. We’ve all been there. Hopes dashed, dreams deferred, and tickets shredded, you reach for anything that could make you feel better. Your entire fandom screaming, “WHY!? DO WE NEED TO ADD A THIRD OR FOURTH MASCOT?” But seriously…orange. Go Ole Miss.
