Southern DIY: Cotton Boll Wreath
I had been dying to make a cotton boll wreath for our front door for a few months now, so when the weather started to get cooler I was ready to craft. Cotton always reminds me of the South, and I thought a cotton wreath would be the perfect fall decoration for the house, and to welcome friends inside!
DIY Cotton Boll Wreath
What you’ll need:
- 6 cotton boll floral sprays
- 18″ grape vine wreath
- Floral wire
- Wire cutters
If your craft store is anything like mine, then the cotton boll sprays are already long gone. It seemed like they didn’t stay in stock very long, but lucky for you I found a shop online with great prices! You should always be able to find a grapevine wreath and floral wire at your local craft store.
To get started, use your wire cutters to cut the cotton floral sprays into smaller pieces, so they’re easier to attach to the wreath. I cut mine down so about 2-4 bolls were on each piece.
Attach the cotton pieces to the grapevine wreath using small pieces of floral wire (2-4″). Wrap the wire around the cotton, and part of the grapevine wreath, twisting to be secure.
Slowly work your way around the wreath, attaching cotton. When I got all the way around I still had some pieces left, so I continued to attach them where the wreath wasn’t as full, until I ran out of cotton.
And just like that, you’re done! The last part is to hang your wreath on your front door, or somewhere else in your house. I added a galvanized W to hang in the middle, but it would look great with a big burlap bow, or a colored bow for the holidays!
