A Market Inspired Meal: Mulberry Market

While at Mulberry Market this past week, I bought a few random items which inspired me to create a whole meal. I was there shopping with my mother and my kids and picked up a couple of these amazing handmade rolls from a new vendor (I did not catch their name, sadly) and then picked up tomatoes and okra from the Little Farm.

Once we started walking to the car I realized- if I get some cheese and ground beef, I could make a market inspired hamburger. And then the okra would be a good side for that as well. So, I got Mom and my kids in to the car with the AC going and asked them to wait on me so I could go back.

And back I went, grabbing some mozzarella fresh from Blue Moon Creamery, out of Loganville, Georgia; then some of the Dragon’s Breath cheese AND vanilla chocolate ice creams from Southern Swiss Dairy, from Waynesboro, Georgia; and ground beef from Rocking Chair Ranch, in Forsyth, Georgia.

Now, what didn’t occur to me to pick up while I was there was some basil, which I’m sure I could have gotten from my friend Melissa Macker’s booth: The Itty-Bitty Herb Farm. Next time, though. This occurred to me when I had to make a stop later at Fresh Market for some organic cornmeal to fry over the okra.

I must admit here, I am a recent fan of fried okra. I know I know I know- I’m a Southerner how can I JUST NOW like fried okra?! Well I am telling y’all, it must be the fact that we’ve been making with the cornmeal as the covering here lately. Either that or this is just another one of those things that I wouldn’t dare touch as a child, kind of like Pimento cheese, which I am slowly being covered to- thanks to the Rookery and other places that make a really good Pimento cheese. But anyways….

So we’ve got Dragon’s Breath cheese, tomatoes, the handmade rolls, and beef- all from Mulberry Market to make our hamburger. Okra from the market, fried with cornmeal from Fresh Market, and a caprese salad with tomatoes from the market and basil from Fresh Market. Aside from the balsamic vinegar on the salad, all of it is organic. Oh and- there’s the ice cream too! But we ate it before I could take pictures 😉

Harpin’s Debuts To-Go Cooler

Most of y’all know of my love of Harpin’s food, and now they have a cooler where you can just grab-and-go! I’m always in a hurry and generally have to really schedule in a lunch break, so this is super awesome for me as I generally take my food to go.

So if you like to grab your food on the go- be sure to check them out! They’re in Payne City just past the railroad tracks and on the left- if you enter from Vineville Avenue.

Love to all y’all,
