Something New – Taste and See

Note: Taste and See Coffee is not open on Sundays, as this is a Christian-based business. But this is one thing that I like about it. They even have a prayer journal at the front counter which they invite customers to write in to ask for prayer and thoughts.

As a writer and a tea drinker, I can testify that there are never enough coffee shops in Macon. Those that I do frequent (aka Jittery Joes) is enough to keep me happy, but I ventured downtown this week to the new coffee shop Taste and See.

The idea behind this coffee shop is every  artsy person’s dream cafe. Once I walked in, the mood of the cafe was very calming. Strategic walls set up private corners and rooms for those who are looking for solitude while they sip at their artfully made coffee (get the joke?). Pieces of art hangs from the wall, and as I moved along through the shop, I came up to the drink counter.

A masterpiece in itself, the stone and wood counter top complete the woody cabin feel that comprises the back part of the cafe. The menu comprises everything from the traditional coffee and tea selections to house specials and strawberry smoothies (or whatever other fruit flavors that are offered). Included in the cafe’s wares are a wonderful array of baked goods, guaranteed to make you drool.

I had a hard choice to make. On the day I came, I had the choice between the gigantic chocolate chip cookies or the delicious looking four-layered guinness cake with irish cream. And being the chocoholic I am, I had to go with the cake.

Look at it. Four layers of chocolate perfection. The irish cream was sweet, but not too sweet, which meant that I was able to keep going long after I normally would have if the cake was sweet too.  I give it two thumbs up if anyone’s in the area and needs a good recommendation.

To compliment this, I had a wonderful China Breakfast tea, which is part of the Rishi loose-leaf tea line. Ever since I studied abroad in Turkey last year, I have been a black tea fanatic. I’m usually hard-pressed to find a tea that I like better than Celestial Seasoning’s Morning Thunder, but the China Breakfast at Taste and See came pretty close. It had a nice flavor to it that I’ll definitely be going back for!

So for those of you who like art, cafes, and a good quiet space to do some work, then Taste and See is the place for you. I was certainly impressed by the good food and the great drinks they serve. Try it today!
