Music Monday: Louise Warren & Lavender Sound

Louise Warren is, quite simply, a lovely person.

She’s also a lovely musician.

And she’s working on a funding campaign to launch her album.

Lavender Sound will be the name of it.

I had the chance to speak with Louise, who also used to contribute to this site, about her album.

MW: What does this album mean to you?

LW: What does this mean to me? Ever since I was a little girl in Elementary school, I knew I wanted to record an album. I would sit in the backseat on long car rides with my family, reading liner notes, learning songwriters names and even studying where the album was created and printed. This is a life long dream for me.

MW: Who inspires you? Or what?

LW: I’m inspired by fiercely authentic performers like Fiona Apple, Arctic Monkeys and classics like the Beatles. I like a wide variety of music but I am especially drawn to catchy melody and raw emotions. On the non-musical end, I love reading. I love poetry and painting. I’ve always loved any opportunity for creativity and reflection on life’s meaning.

MW: So… What genre are you?

LW: The toughest question I answer because I enjoy a wide variety of sounds and genres! I always say pop/rock because it gives em a bit of freedom to experiment.

MW: Whats the story behind the album name?

LW: Most of the songs I initially wanted on my first album were written during a time period where I was obsessed with spraying lavender essential oils around my room. Scent triggers memory. This was a very cohesive idea to me because a lot of the album is rooted in making peace with the past. It’s very much a cleansing album to me on a songwriting level and on a personal level. Its been a 5 year journey to this place. I’ve gone through many personal losses which triggered the start and stop of this project at least 3 times. In that time I turned down contracts that were not right for me and suffered the loss of one of my greatest supporters and one of the most important people in my life (my Dad). In the process of this creation, I have inadvertently been molded into the woman I’ve wanted to be. That is the message behind this album. The things that “break” you are what I believe make you. I’m a big fan of quotes. Srully D. Blotnick said it best to me, “What looks like a loss may be the very event which is subsequently responsible for helping to produce the major achievement of your life.” This project is a mosaic of sorts. I’ve taken the “broken” pieces of my past and transformed them into something more beautiful and meaningful.

Love to all y’all,
