Feelin’ Pretty {And An Announcement}

Every now and then I catch grief over my photo shoots- but I want to offer a radical idea:

People like to feel pretty.

What better than a professional hair stylist, professional makeup person, and a professional photographer to do that?!

Now, I happen to be promoting certain products and people that I like in the process and there’s always a story behind what I’m doing. For instance, this past weekend I was shooting in Athens, Georgia, as a part of the relaunch and rebranding of this blog. (So also- announcement-  yay! Keep your eyes open for this!) Shayne from Model Citizen Salon, Jeni from M.A.C. in Athens, and Tyrone with Ty Myrick Photography were all amazing and I can’t wait to show you the results!

Thank you to my dear friend and ADPi sister Kelly for taking this “behind the scenes” photo!

But honestly, my very first photo shoot was just for me. It was me at the beginning of my divorce wanting to do something that would make me feel good about myself.

Because who DOESN’T like to see themselves all dolled up and pretty?!

For me, it was a revelation also- that I really enjoy the art behind styling for photo shoots and seeing how clothing and makeup and hair all works together to make a really pretty picture.

And…. I think more people should do this. I think women, and men, should feel empowered to do this. There is nothing wrong with treating yourself to getting make up and having someone who KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE DOING take your photo. And many times you will be surprised at the results- I feel like I (many times) look totally different when I have someone who knows what the f they’re doing help me style my hair and makeup. And sometimes I feel like this is the “real me”.  (Note: I do my own outfit stylings, of course.) And that it makes a difference to have a professional who knows what they are doing with lighting to photograph me.

There’s nothing wrong with this! It’s not about being pretentious. it’s creating art. And if you can make yourself feel good in the process, isn’t that pretty awesome?!

On another note- I’ll be rebranding soon! Keep your eyes open because we will be under a new name, something which makes more sense since we have a lot more writers now. Excited!!!

We’re also nearing 100,000 total views on this site- so keep your eyes open for a HUGE giveaway at that time!

Love y’all all so much!
